ATOM space @ Chinatown
55 Pratt Street
David Borawski, curator
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – March 7, 2012
ATOM space is pleased to announce our return to downtown Hartford, at a new temporary location at 55 Pratt Street, with a group exhibition of contemporary art.
The exhibition will run from March 30 through April 21, with an opening reception on Friday March 30 from 6 to 9pm.
Gallery hours will be Thursday through Saturday from 12 noon to 5pm, or by appointment. 860/944-1665
Artists featured in the exhibition are Johanna Bresnick, Joe Bun Keo, Kevin Kelly, Adam Niklewicz, John O’Donnell, Gregory Russell and Cara Vickers-Kane. The curator is David Borawski.
The exhibition addresses ideas of process, perception and identity, and the complexity of current world events through the use of sculpture, video, photography and performance. John O’Donnell will present a performative installation during the opening reception.
ATOM space is an ongoing project of Hartford artists David Borawski and Anne Cubberly. Inspired last year by an empty bank ATM lobby at the corner of Trumbull and Pearl streets, Borawski and Cubberly secured the the use of the space to mount unique installations that were viewed through the surrounding glass windows. Only one exhibition was mounted before the space was leased , putting ATOM space on hold.
The Pratt street space, formerly Chinatown Jewelery was generously provided by Jonathan Cohen of Cohen Realty, and presented with the support of Real Art Ways. Mr. Cohen has been working to reinvigorate the downtown area, and saw the ATOM space project as interesting venture to attract visitors to Hartford in general, and Pratt Street in particular. If the space remains available, a second exhibition will follow in May.
In the late 90’s, David Borawski mounted five pop-up exhibitions in and around Hartford, and curated three exhibitions for Real Art Ways.
